| The Structure
of Hypnotherapy in New Zealand |
Because Hypnotherapy is such
a safe
and natural procedure, it has been left alone to be pretty much
self governing and independent of any specific government control and
legislation.
There are no specific to Hypnotherapy legal
requirements,
restrictions, or qualifications required by anyone practicing
Hypnotherapy
in New Zealand.
Furthermore, because
Hypnotherapy
is so safe and natural, anyone can legally practice in NZ as a
Hypnotherapist!
Every Hypnotherapist in NZ is completely free to practice either
independently,
or, if they choose, as part of a one of the many groups,
associations, or societies.
Regardless of their
training, qualifications,
or experience, every Hypnotherapy practitioner is legally and morally
expected
to operate under guidelines defined by such departments as Occupational
Safety & Health (OSH), the Inland Revenue Department (IRD), the
Health
& Disability Commissioner (HDC) and the Fair Trading Act
(FTA).
Also, most Hypnotherapy groups and trainers have strict Codes of
Ethics that must be adhered to by all members.
To follow, is a
textual and
graphical representation of the structure of mainstream Hypnotherapy
within
New Zealand:
- At the top of the
hierarchy is The New
Zealand Hypnotherapy Federation (NZHF) which is made up of
representatives
from the 3 major Hypnotherapy Associations and 4 major Hypnotherapy
Trainers. (As
following)
NZHF Member
Associations:
- The New Zealand
Association of Professional
Hypnotherapists
- The International
Hypnotherapy Practitioners
Society
- The Psychoanalysis
Hypnotherapy Institute
of New Zealand
NZHF Member Trainers:
- Hypnosis New Zealand
- Alpha Hypnosis
- New Zealand School
of
Professional Hypnotherapy
- Hypnotherapy
Training
College of New
Zealand
- Near the top of the
structure, there
is also the New Zealand Hypnotherapists Registration Board (NZHRB)
which
has member Hypnotherapists from the Associations. (These members
are
Registered Hypnotherapists.)
- The 4 trainers each
teach new Hypnotherapists
and award their own certification or diploma to each passing student.
These
qualified Hypnotherapists may then join one or more of the Hypnotherapy
Associations, so they can be a part of the
mainstream
of the profession (and therefore advance their learning by
attending
training meetings, peer groups, mentoring and conferences).
- On becoming a
senior,
experienced, member
of one of the 3 Hypnotherapy Associations, a Hypnotherapist may then
apply
to become "Registered" with the New Zealand Hypnotherapists
Registration
Board. (The NZHRB is currently investigating the possibility of
having
their own independent registration requirements.)
| Hypnotherapy
Qualifications in New Zealand |
NB.
There
are
no
official
legal
qualification
requirements specific to
Hypnotherapy
in New Zealand! Hypnotherapy is a natural therapy that anyone who
is skilled in, can practice.
Most
Hypnotherapy
trainers
(certainly the 3 member trainers of the NZHF) provide
their
own qualifications. There is a wide range of course content and
price
of trainers throughout the Hypnotherapy profession - and all newcomers
are urged to compare for themselves, these variables, before settling
on
a trainer suitable to their requirements. It is also suggested that you
contact your choice of trainer by email, or by telephone to discuss the
courses they offer.
On-Going Training
To
assist
with on-going training, most of the Hypnotherapy Associations hold
training
workshops and yearly conferences - and the NZ Hypnotherapy Federation
holds
the yearly National Hypnotherapy Conference weekend - usually featuring
major local and overseas presenters and trainers.
NB. There
is NO NZQA qualification for Hypnotherapy!
In
fact,
all
the
previous
and
proposed
unit standards were marked for expiry at
the end of 2008 - see
NZQA
website
here!
Like most other natural
therapies,
the NZQA has deemed that the Hypnotherapy profession is responsible for
deciding its own structure (as it always has been)!
Hypnotherapy is a safe,
natural procedure,
that apparently has no need of specific controlling legislation by the
government.
